January Marks Human Trafficking Prevention Month: Carlson Family Foundation Takes a Stand
The Carlson Family Foundation is committed to preventing the sexual exploitation and trafficking of young people. This work is deeply aligned with our values of community, anti-racism, and youth empowerment. January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and we reaffirm our dedication to creating safer, brighter futures for all young people by focusing on education, mental health, and actionable research.
A Focus on Prevention and Empowerment
At the heart of our efforts is the prevention of sex trafficking and exploitation of youth, particularly boys, LGBTQ+ youth, and youth of color, who are disproportionately affected. Our funding priorities emphasize culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to support young people in high-risk situations. This includes:
- Education and Awareness: Equipping youth with the tools to recognize and avoid trafficking scenarios, whether in schools, out-of-school programs, or at home.
- Mental Health Support: Ensuring access to mental health services that are both culturally responsive and trauma-informed, empowering youth to heal and thrive.
- Actionable Research: Supporting service providers with research-driven strategies to improve prevention efforts and protect at-risk youth.
The foundation’s legacy, deeply rooted in the values of love, integrity, and collaboration, drives our resolve to create systemic change. By working alongside our partners, we strive to dismantle the root causes of trafficking and amplify the voices of those most affected. The family’s multi-generational commitment ensures a sustained focus on this critical issue.
January Lunch & Learn: Engaging the Community
To raise awareness and foster collaboration, 180 Degrees, a Carlson Family Foundation grantee, will present at a January Lunch & Learn hosted by Carlson. The session will emphasize youth empowerment and safety. Attendees, including Carlson- employees will also participate in a hands-on volunteer activity, assembling care packages for local organizations supporting trafficking survivors.
