Standing Firm in Our Commitment to Racial Equity

Like many of you, we have closely followed the recent executive orders issued by the current administration. In times like these — when fear and uncertainty are amplified — our Foundation’s commitment to racial equity remains steadfast and unwavering. Our work has always been rooted in the conviction that every young person deserves opportunity, hope, and a sense of belonging. We refuse to be deterred by policies or actions that threaten to undermine these shared values, and we are exploring different strategies to meet this moment.

We stand in solidarity with you — our grantee partners who tirelessly champion the voices and experiences of youth and communities that have long been marginalized, and we remain guided by the following commitments:

  • We resolutely support and uplift the voices of all disenfranchised or historically marginalized communities.
  • We serve our partners with care, recognizing that this is an intentional, multigenerational journey requiring mutual trust, learning, and a recognition of ongoing trauma caused by systemic racism.
  • We hold ourselves accountable and commit to using our privilege and power to dismantle unjust systems.
  • We will not give up until our communities are liberated from racism and a more equitable future is ensured for all youth.

At this moment, we know fear can be powerful — but love, unity, and resolve are stronger, and we commit to standing firm with you. Together, we will ensure that young people — from every background — have the support, encouragement, and resources they need to imagine and build a future free from oppression, discrimination, and hate. This is our promise to you, and to the communities we serve.

Thank you for your unrelenting dedication to advancing equity, justice, and a sense of belonging for our youth. We remain committed to working alongside you and using our tools and resources to build safer, more just communities now and for future generations.

With resolve and gratitude,

C. David Nelson
